    Description

    This is a Ellsworth Sub22 mountain bike, manufactured in the mid 1990’s. I am the second owner and I purchased it in the late 1990’s. I can not find a serial number, please let me know if you have any ideas. The bike is equipped with Deore XT shifters, derailleurs, pedals (not clip-in). brakes (More about brakes later), and cranks. It has a Cane Creek headset and a nearly new WTB Rocket saddle. I’m 5’11” and the bike fits me fine due to long stem and seat post. This also means it would be easy to configure for a much smaller person. The tires are Bontrager 26x1.5 with greenway tread. The paint and decals have the expected scrapes and dullness. The frame has no dents. In a few places, the paint on bottom of top tube started to peel, but I repaired these with superglue. If you can find touch up paint, these could be further blended.
    Let’s talk about how the bike got to the present configuration…. When I purchased, it was equipped with Cane Creek Cronos wheels, XT cantilever brakes, and a Rockshox Judy SL fork. Eventually, the fork wore out and I couldn’t find parts or tools. I purchased a new Suntour front fork. This is a greenway type fork, not intended for heavy off road riding. Fast forward a year while I was treated and recovering from cancer. I installed the fork, which was advertised as a 26,27, and 29” size for both disk and cantilever brakes. Unfortunately, with a 26”, the cantilever mounts were too high to hit the rim. I could no longer return the fork, so I bought a new set of disk brake wheels and disk brakes.  I installed these in the front and they work fine. In the back, I could not install a disk brake because the frame has no mounting for it. I stayed with original frame and wheel.
    You have a choice… you can leave the bike in its current condition with mixed wheels and brakes (there is no problem with this set up), you can find a Judy SL fork and install with the original front wheel, or you could install the new rear wheel, providing you can find a mount adaptor for the disk brake. It depends what you want to do with the bike. Both sets of wheels and both sets of brakes are included in this listing. Other spares include the original stem (I no longer have the original handlebars)  and a new SRAM 8 speed chain.
    Packing and shipping will be complicated because because of the extra wheels, which makes the box too big for USPS, UPS, or FEDEX. I have shown a flat shipping charge for 5 to lower 48 states but will love you forever if you do local pickup in Knoxville TN.
    eBay only let me load 12 photos, so feel free to ask for additional or ask questions. It is important that you understand that the bike is 25 years old, but I wouldn’t hesitate taking off in a long ride right now.
